A New Baby
No, not that kind of baby… a baby bird!
We have lived for seven years with no pets (except one fish). I have always wanted a dog or two, but my husband, who has more brains, says not now. He knows I can’t handle that. (Although, I argue, my kitchen floor could really use the daily natural clean-up included with doggy daily duties.) Well, after much research I decided a Parrotlet is a perfect first pet for our family. We drove to Upstate SC the other day to pick up Jubilee, our baby girl.
She is six weeks old and full of life! She’s scared to death of us I think still, but hopefully in a few days she will start to branch out (get it? branch out…haha). She does like to ride around (and poop) on my shoulder and is still drinking formula. (Yes! Oh, dear….)
Here are some pictures and a little background on why I chose the name Jubilee.
A Break
God is asking me to take a break from “Good Like a Medicine” for a while. When you read this, please pray that this is a fruitful time away for me. Thanks for reading!
A Friday Quote
I’ve been behind on life with no time for “free pattern Friday” the last two weeks, but since I’ve been in reading mode this week, I’d like to share a great little statement I came across today. This is simple yet profound:
“A friend of mine, a homeschool mom, just passed away of cancer. In the week before she died, I asked her if she had any regrets in her life. She told me she wished she had baked less bread – she said if she had it to do over again she would buy bread and spend more time with her children. She had invested time and energy in pursuing the “path” because she thought it was part of the spiritual homeschool package…”

Palmetto Handmade Updates + First Giveaway!
The giveaway is now finished. Thanks for all of the hearty participation!
I’ve been busy putting some great new fabric into action in the sewing room. This weekend I added several new small purses into Palmetto Handmade at Etsy and hope to add more in the next week or so. I’ve been designing some other quilts and baby gift sets, too, and hope to put them in the shop in the next 2-3 weeks!
I used to sell these small purses as “Verse Purses,” but now I am listing them as small purses with the option to add a Verse Purse Card Pack for a few additional dollars in the store. That way people can buy the purses without the cards if they want.
Olive Manna
Natalie Jost is one of those friends I “met online” that I wish I could hang out and work with on a regular basis! I actually met her through a Christian web design community, but we share a mutual passion for so many other things. She loves Jesus and has been a good friend to me over the last couple of years. I wish we lived near each other so that we could get our families together and go crafty crazy, but it’s probably for the better because we’d certainly be dangerous if left alone with our tools and hundreds of project ideas!
I’m excited to share that Natalie has designed these fabrics for me to use for the purses! I’ve had it on my cutting table for a few weeks in hopes that I would have the chance to sew with it. Natalie is a fantastic graphic and web designer with a love for color and fresh concepts. Her business is Olive Manna, and she runs an Olive Manna Etsy Store selling items featuring her original designs. You’ll definitely need to check out her affordable and practical products!
Giveaway!
I’ve never hosted a giveaway on my blog before now, but I’m excited to offer a free Verse Purse to one of my readers this week in conjunction with the new line of purses in my shop! Just leave a comment on this post indicating which Verse Purse card topic you would like if you win (click here for topics), and I will draw for a winner after midnight Wednesday, July 8th!
*** update: Natalie’s throwing in a 20% off coupon for Olive Manna to the winner. Yay! ***
Freedom
Today on Independence Day I remember my Papa and his sacrifice through the “Fighting 69th” army infantry division in World War II. I remember his quiet smile and loving memories I had while a child at his house. He was a wonderful father who raised another wonderful father to love me. I thank God that Papa could be counted among the millions who have given their time and lives to sustain American freedom.
I thank God that I can taste true freedom from my total depravity by way of the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on the cross. His resurrection seals my inheritance and releases me from the guilt and death of my sin. Liberty is mine though I have never and will never deserve it. This freedom is more precious today to me than it has ever been, and I pray my heart will there forever rest!
