New year, same old me, same God

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. — Ephesians 2:10

Call ‘em resolutions, goals, or the like. Whatever they are, I intend to take them quite seriously, because I serve the risen Christ and because I can enjoy the God who gives me Godly desires. These are the things I want to see, do, and dream about in 2007:

12Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
– from Colossians 3

And now for my “short list.” Ha. Because I’m a visual, tangible person.

I know some of you are chuckling. I can hear Emily‘s mother right now, “My, my! Ambitious Kristi strikes again!” And my sister Katy is probably lovingly rolling her eyes, right, Katy? Most of the things on this list are John Piper’s fault. :) I was listening to this and this and this on the radio website, and it just got me terribly excited.

I love the law of God, but I sure do hate legalism. I know that if I see every single item on my list come to fruition, God will not love me any more or less. I can’t do anything without God giving me the strength, and doing the things on my “short list” is pointless without the love of Christ ruling my heart. I don’t want to be a clanging cymbal. That doesn’t mean I’m not going to try, though.

I saw earlier that there are lots of Christian bloggers outlining the same interests, so I joined the linkage at Laurel Wreath.

God bless you and yours as you begin this new year.

Kristi I enjoyed that you stopped by and I really enjoyed reading your list. I see we have many things in common, I love John Piper also =)

You do have ambitious goals, but very attainable.

I will visit again and see how you are doing. I would love to learn how to do a quilt (someday, most likely not this year =)

    Blessings.

    This part spoke to me!

    Happy New Years!

    Hello-found you through Laurel Wreath.

Loved your list. I tend to be a bit ambitous, as well. I just tell people that I don’t want to underestimate God!

If you find you enjoy Jewel, then I recommend A Song I Knew By Heart (also by Lott). It is a “modern” day story of Ruth and Naomi….very beautifully written.

I love reading your blog…it is always so encouraging! I look forward to your 2007 posts.

I like your list… can I steal some of them? Or really, I think I’d like to steal the motivation for them!

    Kristi,

I agree with Melanie, A Song I Knew by Heart is definitely a good add to any book list. It’s very poignant.

Also, if you like Southern writing, then check out Beth Webb Hart (also Christian fiction). She writea about SC Lowcountry/Charleston area in her two books Grace at Low Tide and Adelaide Piper. They are both great reads, although I enjoyed Grace at Low Tide a little more.

Last year I set out to become a better, more varied cook and one thing I found that has helped is the Kraft Food and Family magazine. It’s free and you can sign up for it over at Kraft.com. Now, many of the recipes aren’t that great, but I’ve gained about five staples for my weekly menus and several good party dishes. There are many more recipes than I’ll ever try, so I just pick the ones that I know would be appetizing to Tom.

I love your list; God honors our intentionality!
